The DIN 371 B HSSE TiCN machine tap is a precision tool designed for internal threading in structural steels, low-alloy steels and high-strength materials. Made of high-grade high-speed cobalt steel HSSE and coated with an advanced TiCN coating, it provides increased wear resistance, stable operation and high tool life even when machining more difficult materials.
The material of the tool is HSSE cobalt high-speed steel, which offers:
high resistance to torsional loads,
increased hardness at elevated temperatures,
better abrasion resistance compared to classic HSS steel.
This ensures that the tap maintains repeatable thread quality and stable cutting performance even with longer cycles and demanding metal materials.
The TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating gives the tool its characteristic dark grey colour and provides:
much higher abrasion resistance than TiN,
reduced friction in the cutting zone,
better temperature control during machining,
improved surface quality of the thread made.
It is a coating recommended for machining materials with higher strength and for processes where tool life is crucial.
The type B cut tap (4-5 turns) is primarily designed for:
threading through holes,
stable operation in structural and alloy steels,
efficient chip feed forward, away from the workpiece.
This geometry minimizes the risk of chip jamming and supports fast and safe threading in series and unit processes.
DIN 371 means:
Reinforced, cylindrical shank suitable for stable machine operation,
compact tool design,
higher rigidity of the entire tap compared to DIN 376.
This solution is often used in machining centers and conventional machines, where precision of tool guidance and threading stability are important.
The DIN 371 B HSSE TiCN tap is ideal for machining:
structural steels,
low-alloy and alloy steels,
medium and high-strength materials,
metals in which efficient chip evacuation is important.
Adapted to work on CNC machine tools and conventional machines, it ensures high durability, repeatability and process reliability.
