The DIN 5156 type C machine tap by Koronet is a precision tool designed for making internal cylindrical pipe threads type G (BSPP – British Standard Pipe Parallel). The BSPP (G) thread is a cylindrical (parallel) thread, which means that it does not seal the connection on the thread itself – tightness is usually achieved through a gasket / O-ring / face seal depending on the design of the connector.
The tool is made of high-speed cobalt steel HSS-E (HSSE), which ensures good wear resistance and stable operation in workshop and production conditions.
The tap makes a cylindrical pipe thread (BSPP). This type of thread:
is used to guide and press fasteners,
is commonly found in piping solutions and fittings,
requires a structural seal (e.g. gasket, O-ring) because the thread has a fixed diameter (it is cylindrical) and does not seal itself by wedging the coils together.
Compliance with DIN 5156 / C indicates type C, i.e. a geometry with a short cut designed for threading in blind holes, where it is important to be able to work close to the bottom of the hole and to guide the tool stably during threading.
The tap is made of HSS-E high-speed steel with the addition of cobalt, which is characterized by:
increased resistance to loads and operating temperature,
good wear resistance,
stable operation with repetitive threading.
The tap is designed to produce internal G-threads (BSPP) in accordance with DIN 5156, in applications where the pipe connection is made with an off-thread seal (depending on the design of the connector).
